Thank you, Dr. James Cone

So sad to hear of the recent passing of Dr. James Cone of Union Theological Seminary, whose book, The Cross and the Lynching Tree, received this year’s Grawemeyer Award in Religion. Due to Dr. Cone’s failing health,  Louisville Seminary’s President Rev. Dr. Michael Jinkins visited Dr. Cone at home in New York to personally present the award. On April 10, the Rev. Dr. JoAnne Marie Terrell, Associate Professor of Theology, Ethics and the Arts at Chicago Theological Seminary, delivered the 2018 Grawemeyer Religion Award lecture on Dr. Cone’s behalf at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, titled, “The Cross, The Lynching Tree, and the Crosshairs: Racial Violence and American Christianity.”
