On incurable cancer, suffering, and faith: A call to compassionate witness

In 2012, J. Todd Billings, the Gordon H. Girod Research Professor of Reformed Theology at Western Theological Seminary, was diagnosed with incurable cancer. A few months ago he gave this incredibly wise and layered talk reflecting on “Living Well in a World that’s Ill” at Ohio State University. Includes important reflections on caring, burnout, empathy, peace, Mother Teresa, survivalism, suffering, and lament as an act of protest in ordinary acts of compassion. Billings is author of 5 books, most recently Rejoicing in Lament: Wrestling with Incurable Cancer and Life in Christ.
