Divine ocular fluid

Moses as he lay dying [it is said] wrote the final verses of the Pentateuch with his own tears, “sealing his life and his book in the only manner it could be sealed, with the divine ocular fluid, the viscosity of which formed the letters…facing the other weeping face, in the work of compassion that must come to closure but is always open.”

-Rabbi Nehemia Polen, “Divine Weeping on Mount Nebo,” in Kimberley Christine Patton and John Stratton Hawley (eds.), Holy Tears: Weeping in the Religious Imagination (Princeton NJ: Princeton University Press, 2005), p. 90.
