I’ve been much inspired this week by the writing of journalist Sarah Smarsh on health, poverty, and the stigma of classism in America. If you haven’t read it, take a few minutes for her 2014 essay, “Poor Teeth,” published in Aeon. And watch for her book on growing up poor in Kansas, In the Red, forthcoming from Scribners.
