$16/day for 6 weeks: Poverty vs. democracy in America

Marking the 50th anniversary of the United States’ “War on Poverty,” researcher Daniel Weeks spent six weeks crossing America by Greyhound bus to “explore the systemic causes of American poverty and political inequality from the vantage point of low-income people themselves.” His findings, published this week in a series of articles in the Atlantic, start here. The research presented in the series builds on work also published in the Lab blog of the Harvard University Edmund J. Safra Center for Ethics (where Weeks is a Fellow) on November 6, 2012, March 27, 2013, and January 6, 2014.
