On vision and action

P1030008_4webWe have all been gifted with the ability to make a difference. And if we can…become aware of that gift, we gain through the strength of our vision the power to shape the future.

-Joel Barker (“The Star Thrower Story,” 1990) quoted in Christoph Benn, “The continued paradigm shift in global health and the role of the faith community,” in James R. Cochrane, Barbara Schmid, and Teresa Cutts (eds), When Religion and Health Align: Mobilising Religious Health Assets for Transformation. Dorpspruit (South Africa): Cluster Publications, 2011, p. 14. While Benn points to this story, he uses Barker’s slightly different saying in the film, as cited by Nelson Mandela: “Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.”
